Power and Strength

Performance Group

The Passion Group Power and Strength was founded in 2010 at St. Michael the Archangel Parish in Bridgeport. Its beginnings date back to 2005, when members of the St. Faustina Choir, together with parishioners, prepared the Passion Play of the Fallen Man’s Way of the Cross. This was a presentation of the fourteen Stations of the Cross accompanied by readings and carefully selected Lenten hymns. Over the years, the group grew spiritually, gained experience, and matured to take on new challenges.

A turning point in the group’s activity came after one of its shared trips. An unexpected encounter with a text describing the Passion of Christ became the inspiration to create the first script for the Passion Play in dialogue form. Since then, the performance has been developed and enriched each year with new scenes, becoming a tool for deeper participation in the Paschal events and a source of spiritual growth for its members.

Since that time, the Pashion Play has been presented annually, continually expanded with new scenes, involving an increasing number of participants. The group has performed it in, among others, Sts. Cyril and Methodius Parish in Hartford and St. John Kanty Church in Clifton, NJ.

In addition to the Passion Play, the actors take part in other performances, such as those for Divine Mercy Sunday, preparing plays about St. Faustina and Divine Mercy, as well as about saints, e.g., St. Joseph.

“Power and Strength” is actively involved in the life of the parish, participating in church celebrations, vigils, prayers, and various works for the benefit of the community.

Today, the group consists of about 60 members — parishioners, choir members, youth, children, and people from outside the parish.
